21日の東京株式市場で日経平均株価は小幅に反発した。終値は前日比20円73銭（0.09％）高の２万2219円73銭だった。朝方は円高・ドル安の進行を嫌気した売りが先行したが、21日の中国・上海総合指数の堅調な推移を受けて投資家心理が改善。午後に円高が一服したことも好感され、買い戻しが優勢となった。日経平均は上昇幅が100円を超える場面もあった。
東京市場の昼休み中に中国・上海総合指数が上げ幅を拡大したほか、円相場も１ドル＝110円台前半に伸び悩み、投資家心理の悪化に歯止めをかけた。海外ヘッジファンドなどが株価指数先物を買い戻し、ファーストリテイリングなど値がさ株に裁定取引に絡む買いが入った。ファストリだけで、21日の日経平均を40円あまり押し上げた。
日経平均は午前に下げ幅が150円に迫る場面があった。トランプ米大統領が米国の利上げに不満を表明したと伝わり、１ドル＝109円台後半まで円高・ドル安が進行。自動車など輸出関連株の一角に採算悪化を嫌気した売りが先行した。

東証株価指数（ＴＯＰＩＸ）は小幅続落した。前日比6.73ポイント（0.40％）安の1685.42で終えた。ＪＰＸ日経インデックス400も続落。終値は前日比59.57ポイント（0.40％）安の１万4942.24だった。
任天堂や資生堂、東海カーボンが上げ、東京エレクトロンも高い。「中国関連銘柄」とされる安川電機やファナックも買われた。一方、ソフトバンクやＫＤＤＩ、ＮＴＴドコモが安い。トヨタも下げた。
21日の新興企業向け株式市場で、日経ジャスダック平均株価は続落した。終値は前日比18円86銭（0.51％）安い3671円08銭で、2017年11月17日以来ほぼ９カ月ぶりの安値を付けた。米中貿易摩擦や新興国経済の先行き不透明感が強いなか、売買の厚みが乏しく流動性リスクが高い新興企業株には買い持ち高を減らす動きが続いた。一部の個人投資家が損失確定の売りを出したとの指摘があった。
ジャスダック市場の売買代金は概算で482億円、売買高は8958万株だった。ホロンが下落し、ハーモニックやマクドナルドも下げた。一方、テリロジーやブロードバンドタワーが上昇した。
東証マザーズ指数も続落した。終値は前日比3.41ポイント（0.36％）安い948.52だった。ＵＵＵＭやサイバダインが売りに押された。メルカリも下げた。一方、ダブルスタンダードが高い。バイオのサンバイオやそーせいグループがそれぞれ上昇した。
