22日の東京株式市場で日経平均株価は４営業日ぶりに反落し、前日比42円03銭（0.18％）安の２万2960円34銭で終えた。朝鮮半島情勢や国内政治を巡る不透明感を嫌気した売りが優勢になった。下値も堅く、日中値幅（高値と安値の差）は78円80銭と、今年に入って最も小さかった。
海外主要メディアが朝方に「ペンス副大統領が21日、北朝鮮の出方次第ではトランプ米大統領が来月予定する米朝首脳会談を取りやめる用意があるとの認識を示した」と報じた。朝鮮半島情勢を巡る警戒感が再び強まり、投資家心理の重荷になった。
日経平均は前日に節目の２万3000円を上回り、短期的な達成感から利益確定の動きが広がりやすかった。日経平均を構成するユニー・ファミリーマートホールディングスが午後から下値模索となり、７％下落。１銘柄で指数を33円ほど押し下げた。
ただ、相場の下値も堅かった。21日の米株式市場で、ダウ工業株30種平均が２カ月ぶりに２万5000ドル台を回復。「米株高の背景にある米中通商問題への懸念の後退は東京市場では21日に織り込んでいたが、押し目買いを入れる材料にはなった」（国内証券ストラテジスト）
ＪＰＸ日経インデックス400は続落した。終値は29.64ポイント（0.19％）安の１万5985.25だった。東証株価指数（ＴＯＰＩＸ）も続落し、4.18ポイント（0.23％）安の1809.57で終えた。
東証１部の売買代金は概算で２兆1437億円、売買高は12億7964万株だった。東証１部の値下がり銘柄数は1261と、全体の６割強を占めた。値上がりは732、変わらずは90銘柄だった。
任天堂やマネックスグループ、ソニーが下落した。三菱ＵＦＪフィナンシャル・グループ、三井住友フィナンシャルグループ、みずほフィナンシャルグループがそろって下げた。一方、武田が上昇。ファナックや村田製作所が上げた。
22日の新興企業向け株式市場で、日経ジャスダック平均株価は４日続伸した。終値は前日比13円96銭（0.35％）高の4003円08銭。終値が4000円を上回るのは４月２日以来。相場水準としては３月22日以来２カ月ぶりの高値となった。東証１部の主力株の上値の重さが意識されるなか、値動きの軽い中小型株に個人投資家などの資金流入が続いた。
市場では「地政学的リスクや原油高などへの懸念が依然くすぶっており、国際情勢の影響を受けにくい内需銘柄が多い新興株市場に資金が向かいやすい」との声が聞かれた。
ジャスダック市場の売買代金は概算で720億円、売買高は１億1307万株だった。ハーモニック・ドライブ・システムズやセリア、エン・ジャパンが上昇した。半面、エスケー化研やフクダ電子は下げた。
東証マザーズ指数も４日続伸した。終値は前日比8.39ポイント（0.72％）高い1179.01と４月９日以来の高値だった。ＤＭＰやＡＭＩ、ＨＥＲＯＺが上昇した。一方、ＡＬＢＥＲＴやＪＩＡ、中村超硬は下げた。
