17日の東京株式市場で日経平均株価は反落し、終値は前日比83円47銭（0.35％）安の２万3868円34銭だった。１ドル＝110円台前半まで進行した円高や前日の米株安を嫌気した海外投資家などの利益確定売りが先行。朝方には下げ幅が一時200円を超えた。ただ来週から発表が本格化する国内主要企業の決算内容への期待から個人投資家などの押し目買い意欲も強く、朝安後は下げ渋った。円相場が午後にかけ、対ドルで下げに転じたことも相場の支えになった。
日経平均は前日に心理的節目となる２万4000円に接近し、約26年２カ月ぶりの高値を付けたとあって、外部環境の悪化を受けた売りが出やすかった。前日に急伸していた日経平均への影響が大きい値がさ株のうち、年初から８日続伸していたファナックが今年初の下落となったほか、ファーストリテイリングやソフトバンクグループも下落し、この３銘柄で日経平均を72円程度押し下げた。
14時過ぎ、中国人民銀行（中央銀行）が一定の要件を満たした銀行向けの預金準備率引き下げを25日に実施すると発表した。上海株は連動して上げ幅を広げ、日経平均の下げ渋りに寄与したとの声もあった。
ＪＰＸ日経インデックス400は反落。終値は前日比23.41ポイント（0.14％）安い１万6760.16だった。東証株価指数（ＴＯＰＩＸ）も反落し、終値は3.43ポイント（0.18％）安の1890.82だった。
東証１部の売買代金は概算で２兆9364億円。売買高は15億4140万株だった。東証１部の値下がり銘柄数は1381と、全体の７割弱を占めた。値上がりは620、変わらずは62だった。
原油高の一服を受けてＪＸＴＧや国際石油開発帝石が売られた。新日鉄住金やＪＦＥホールディングス、丸紅、三菱商事が下げた。一方、三菱電やキーエンス、東京エレクトロンが上昇。訪日外国人消費への期待から資生堂が買われた。
東証２部株価指数は反落した。アライドテレシスホールディングスと東芝が下げ、杉村倉庫と黒谷は上げた。
17日の新興企業向け株式市場で日経ジャスダック平均株価は10営業日ぶりに反落した。終値は前日比12円47銭（0.30％）安の4149円88銭だった。日本株全般に利益確定の売りが増え、新興企業株も値下がり銘柄が優勢になった。インターネット上の仮想通貨ビットコインが急落し、短期売買の個人などの間で投資家心理が悪化した面もあった。
ジャスダック市場の売買代金は概算で1483億円、売買高は２億5871万株だった。レカムやレイ、ラクオリア創薬が下げた。半面、ヴィスコ・テクノロジーズ、ＹＫＴ、歯愛メディカルは上げた。
東証マザーズ指数は続落した。終値は前日比19.42ポイント（1.48％）安の1291.84だった。ナノキャリアやアンジェス、そーせいグループといったバイオ関連株への売りが目立った。ＰＫＳＨＡ ＴｅｃｈｎｏｌｏｇｙやＤＭＰも安い。フィル・カンパニーやエンバイオ・ホールディングス、サンバイオは買われた。
