12日の東京株式市場で日経平均株価は４営業日ぶりに反落し、前日比72円56銭（0.32％）安の２万2866円17銭で終えた。最近の相場急上昇を受けた利益確定売りが優勢だった。米国の金融政策を決める米連邦公開市場委員会（ＦＯＭＣ）など海外の重要イベントを控え、投資家の買い見送り姿勢が強まった。ファナックや信越化学工業など値がさハイテク株の一角が安かった。
朝方は前日の米株高を好感した買いが先行し、日経平均が11日に付けた年初来高値（２万2938円）を上回る場面もあったが、続かなかった。
東証１部の売買高は16億62万株。値下がり銘柄数は1024と、全体の約５割だった。値上がりは910、変わらずは113。ＪＰＸ日経インデックス400は小幅ながら４日続伸した。終値は前日比11.51ポイント（0.07％）高の１万6086.00だった。東証株価指数（ＴＯＰＩＸ）も小幅に４日続伸し、1.74ポイント（0.10％）高の1815.08で終えた。
昭和電工が下げた。午後に2017年12月期の連結営業利益予想を引き上げたが市場予想に届かなかった。京セラや日本電産、味の素、ＨＯＹＡも安い。一方で銀行株が買われ、三菱ＵＦＪや三井住友ＦＧが年初来高値を更新。ＪＸＴＧも同高値を付けた。国際石油開発帝石や丸紅が上げた。
東証２部株価指数は４日続伸し年初来高値を更新した。東芝とサイステップが上げ、リミックスポイントと朝日インテックが下げた。
12日の新興企業向け株式市場で、日経ジャスダック平均株価は４日続伸した。終値は前日比７円33銭（0.19％）高い3865円63銭だった。1990年８月２日（3881円02銭）以来、およそ27年４カ月ぶりの高値を付けた。東証１部の大型株がさえない値動きとなる中で、中小型株の多い新興企業株には個人投資家などの買いが続いた。セルフレジ開発で提携するアルファクスなど利益成長が期待される銘柄の上げが目立った。一方、朝方に年初来高値を更新していたマクドナルドなどには利益確定目的の売りが出て、ジャスダック平均の上げ幅は小さかった。
ジャスダック市場の売買代金は概算で843億円、売買高は１億2722万株だった。期末の特別配当を発表したシノケングループが上昇し、ソフトウェア・サービスや夢真ホールディングスも上げた。一方、精密減速機のハーモニック・ドライブ・システムズは下落し、フェローテックホールディングスや不二精機が安い。
東証マザーズ指数は４日続伸した。終値は前日比2.58ポイント（0.22％）高い1181.62だった。ダイヤモンド工具の中村超硬、３Ｄ画像処理技術のＤＭＰが上昇した。一方、サインポストやジーエヌアイグループは下げた。
