17日の東京株式市場で日経平均株価は３日ぶりに反発し、前日比121円14銭（0.53％）高の２万2838円37銭で終えた。上げ幅は150円を超える場面もあった。ソニーや任天堂といった時価総額の大きい主力株に、円安による採算改善を期待した海外投資家から１日を通して買いが入り、指数を押し上げた。
16日の米国市場で長期金利が６年10カ月ぶりの水準に上昇したのを受け、運用収益の改善期待から三井住友フィナンシャルグループやソニーフィナンシャルホールディングス、第一生命ホールディングスなど幅広い金融株に買いが入った。取引開始前に内閣府が発表した３月の機械受注統計で４～６月期も好調な受注が続くとの見方から、安川電機やオークマなどの機械株も買われた。
もっとも、日経平均の値幅（高値と安値の差）は87円と、2017年12月27日以来の小ささだった。北朝鮮を巡る情勢が再び不透明感を増しており、積極的に上値を追う動きは限られた。

東証１部の売買代金は概算で２兆3870億円。売買高は14億7347万株だった。東証１部の値上がり銘柄数は1146、値下がりは840、変わらずは97銘柄だった。
第一三共やエーザイが上昇した。三菱ケミカルホールディングスと旭化成も高く、ＨＯＹＡは年初来高値を更新した。一方、住友不動産と三井不動産は下落した。イオンとユニチャームも下げ、ＮＴＴとＫＤＤＩも安かった。

東証マザーズ指数も反発した。終値は前日比25.31ポイント（2.25％）高い1152.35だった。時価総額上位のミクシィやサイバダインが上昇した。人工知能（ＡＩ）開発のＨＥＲＯＺの上げも目立った。一方、ビッグデータ解析のメタップスやダイヤモンド工具の中村超硬は下落した。
