円相場は１ドル＝109円台に上昇し、日銀による2017年12月の全国企業短期経済観測調査（短観）における大企業・製造業の17年度の想定為替レート１ドル＝110円18銭より円高となった。このため、輸出の採算悪化懸念が強まった。
23日に17年４～12月期決算を発表し、同時に通期予想を据え置いた安川電機が売られた。今後本格化する日本企業の決算発表後の株式相場の下落懸念につながった面もあった。
東証株価指数（ＴＯＰＩＸ）は前日比9.84ポイント（0.51％）安の1901.23、ＪＰＸ日経インデックス400は88.96ポイント（0.53％）安の１万6848.67でともに４営業日ぶりに反落した。
東証１部の売買代金は概算で２兆9404億円、売買高は15億2356万株だった。東証１部の値下がり銘柄数は989、値上がりは961、変わらずは113だった。

東証マザーズ指数は３日続伸し、終値は前日比14.98ポイント（1.12％）高の1355.55だった。2006年８月25日以来およそ11年５カ月ぶりの高値を付けた。ナノキャリアやそーせいといったバイオ関連銘柄への買いが続いたほか、時価総額の大きいサイバダインの堅調が指数の上昇に寄与した。一方、パークシャやフィルＣ、グロバルＬＭなどは下げた。
