16日の東京株式市場で日経平均株価は７営業日ぶりに反発し、終値は前日比322円80銭（1.47％）高の２万2351円12銭だった。朝方に心理的節目の２万2000円を下回ったが、下値水準とみられていた25日移動平均（２万1900円台半ば）近辺で下げ渋ったため、高値警戒感を背景とした水準調整が一巡したとの見方が広がった。海外のヘッジファンドが株価指数先物に自律反発を見込んだ買いを入れた。円相場が１ドル＝113円台前半に下げたことや香港やインドなどアジアの株式相場が堅調に推移し、投資家心理が改善した。
15日の米株安を受け、売りが先行し、朝方は取引時間中としては10月31日以来およそ半月ぶりに２万2000円を下回る場面があった。ただ、利益確定の売りを急ぐ投資家は少なかった。
ＪＰＸ日経インデックス400は６営業日ぶり反発。終値は前日比157.10ポイント（1.01％）高の１万5641.77だった。東証株価指数（ＴＯＰＩＸ）も６営業日ぶりに反発し同17.70ポイント（1.01％）高の1761.71で終えた。
東証１部の売買代金は概算で３兆829億円。売買高は17億7416万株だった。東証１部の値上がり銘柄数は1518と、全体の約７割を占めた。値下がりは438、変わらずは79銘柄だった。
任天堂や資生堂、ＳＭＣの上昇率が大きかった。ファーストリテイリングやソフトバンクグループ、ＫＤＤＩなどの値がさ株の上昇も目立った。半面、国際石油開発帝石やマツダ、コマツの下落率が大きかった。丸紅や伊藤忠など商社も下げた。
東証２部株価指数は反発した。シャープとラオックスが上げ、朝日インテックとリミックスポイントが下げた。
16日の新興企業向け株式市場で、日経ジャスダック平均株価は３営業日ぶりに反発した。終値は前日比39円76銭（1.10％）高い3646円23銭だった。株式相場の地合いが好転し、直近の下落局面で売りが続いていた銘柄に資金が流入した。交通費精算サービスなどコンテンツ制作のビーマップや、電子部品商社の栄電子の反発が大きかった。
ジャスダック市場の売買代金は概算で726億円、売買高は9392万株だった。電子部品など製造業に人材を派遣するＵＴグループが午後一段高となった。電子制御装置を製造するアバールデータも買いが集まった。日本マクドナルドホールディングスや麻生フオームクリートは下落した。
